The Importance of Structured Business Planning
This is a special program created to help the participant create a comprehensive, structured, carefully organized, well-conceived plan for their business. Participants work one-on-one with Professor Myron Gould to write their business plan.

With any business venture there is an element of risk and no sure way to guaranty success. According to the New York City Department of Small Business Services, "About 50% of new firms fail in their first year and 90% within 5 years." "Unrealistic expectations" and "the inability to cope with ambiguity and uncertainty" are included among the reasons given for business failure. Thorough, disciplined planning, with strong attention paid to detail, can help to eliminate these barriers and lead to a stronger potential for success.

After going through the process of preparing their business and marketing plan the participant will:
  • Thoroughly understand the marketplace they are a part of
  • Know all about their competitors and what they need to do to win customers from each of them
  • Have made well-thought-out decisions about who they will target with their marketing effort.
  • Have a thorough understanding of their strengths and weaknesses.
  • Understand the opportunities available to them.
  • Be aware of potential threats they must consider and how they can prepare for them.
  • Know more about their business and their direction than they ever could prior to undergoing this process.
We organize a business plan into modules participants address in a sequence where each subsequent module relies on the thoroughness and strength of the previous module to build a strong foundation and supporting structure for strategic planning.

Our approach to business and marketing planning is considerably more intense than most others advocate.

For example, participants prepare a SWOT Analysis on both a macro level to understand their company's relativity within the marketplace, and again on a micro level to understand their company's relativity with each specific market segment they will target. Others only prepare a SWOT Analysis on a macro level.

We ask participants to provide their rationale for each decision they make in their plan. This is to assure both the participant and the reader understand why they made the decision and why it is the best decision under the circumstances presented.

We ask participants to organize parts of their plan into sub-elements to address the fine details that present a clearer picture of what they intend to do rather than present the reader with a generalized summary statement open to interpretation.

We believe these differences lead to a greater propensity for success. They have served others well who have gone through this process and are now at various stages in the growth of their businesses.
